Check Your Configuration

Follow these instructions to check your dialup configuration settings in Windows 95, 98 and ME Click Here or in Windows 2000 and XP Click Here You may print out this page and refer to it while performing the checks. (If you need to setup a new dialup configuration Click Here.)
Check Your Windows 95, 98 or ME Dialup Configuration: For Windows 95 & 98 Click on My Computer --> Dialup Networking For Windows ME Click on My Computer --> Control Panel --> Dialup Networking Right click on the Coinet icon and select Properties. (Note: Your Coinet icon may be named 'coinet.com' or 'Coinet' or it may even be named with one of our dialup phone numbers.) Window name: <Coinet icon name> Tab name: General Area Code: 541 or blank Telephone number: 617-6289 Connect Using: Note: If area code is set to 541 then you must perform the checks under Dial Properties below. Window name: <Coinet icon name> Tab name: Server Types Log on to network NOT checked Enable software compression checked Require encrypted password NOT checked Require data encryption NOT checked Record a log file for this connection NOT checked NetBEUI NOT checked IPX/SPX Compatible NOT checked TCP/IP checked Click on the TCP/IP Settings button Window name: <Coinet icon name> Tab name: Server Types Window name: TCP/IP Settings Server assigned IP address checked Server Assigned name server addresses checked Use IP header compression checked Use default gateway on remote network checked Click on Cancel to close the TCP/IP window Window name: <Coinet icon name> Tab name: Scripting Start Terminal screen minimized checked Window name: <Coinet icon name> Tab name: Multilink Do not use additional devices checked Click on OK if you have made changes Click on Cancel if you have made NO changes If you have made changes and Windows asks you to restart your computer wait until after the next step before doing so. The Dialup Networking window should still be open on your desktop. Left double click on the Coinet icon to open your dialer window, and click on Dial Properties. Window name: Dialing Properties Area code: 541 To disable call waiting checked & if you have select code Call Waiting To disable call waiting NOT checked if you don't Click on OK if you have made changes Click on Cancel if you have made NO changes If Windows previously asked you to restart your computer you may do so now. If your dialer still does not work after checking the above configuration items to create a trouble ticket.
Check Your Windows 2000 or XP Dialup Configuration: For Windows XP (standard mode) Click on Start --> Control Panel --> Network Connections For Windows 2000 and Windows XP (classical mode) Click on Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Network Connections Right click on the Coinet icon and select Properties. (Note: Your Coinet icon may be named 'coinet.com' or 'Coinet' or it may even be named with one of our dialup phone numbers.) Window name: <Coinet icon name> Tab name: General Area Code: 541 or blank Telephone number: 617-6289 Connect Using: Note: If area code is set to 541 then you must perform the checks under Dial Properties below. Window name: <Coinet icon name> Tab name: Options Display progress while connection checked Prompt for name and apssword, certificate, etc. checked Include Windows logon domain NOT checked Prompt for phone number checked Window name: <Coinet icon name> Tab name: Security Typical (recommended settings) checked Validate my identy as follows: Allow unsecured password Window name: <Coinet icon name> Tab name: Networking Make sure Internet Protocol TCP/IP is in highlighted. Click on Properties and check these settings Obtain an IP address automatically checked Obtain DNS server address automatically checked Window name: <Coinet icon name> Tab name: Advanced Internet Connection Firewall: Protect my ... checked internet Connection Sharing: Allow other ... optional If your dialer still does not work after checking the above configuration items to create a trouble ticket.
